Vineyards

The hills are our heritage

Fantin Nodar cultivates its vines on a single, 20-hectare rectangular estate, in a corner of which is the winery housing the vinification, maturation and ageing facilities.
The vines were laid down in 1992 to 1994 and the company now fills around 40,000 bottles a year.

Our grape varieties are Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Tocai Friulano, Sauvignon and Pinot Grigio, all using the Guyot breeding system. The planting density is 5,000 per hectare, with perfect geometrical distribution. Height above sea level is around 112 metres.

As often happens on hilly ground, exposition is irregular, and the vines have their roots in terrain (here called ponca) that’s a mixture of marls, sandstone marls and clay marls.
The soil is poor in terms of humus, nitrogen and organic carbon. Its pH is normally acid, if not close to neutral.

Warm southerly breezes from the south (the Adriatic is less than 30 km away as the crow flies) and the Bora and other cold winds blowing from north/north-east cause temperature ranges that ensure wines with intense and elegant aromas, the right acidity balance and excellent structure, all of which are crucial to successful ageing.
